Content of the talks from each country; Ongoing programs

Purpose: Highlight good ideas and possible pitfalls to all other countries, ongoing and new ones

Recruitment of student, number of students each year, number of training days in a year, birding sites, challenges, good advice for other countries. Show pictures of landscapes, birds and students, and a map with the places marked. Include also didactic details about the teaching methods used in each country, with emphasis on what you find successful and what should be improved. How do you teach, how do you vary between bird appearance and bird sounds during the field days. What about indoor teaching, what about equipment in the field, what do the students like and dislike, what do you think is very effective and what is not so effective methods in effective learning and students well-being. What kind of information do you present for the students in addition to how to recognize the species, and what about repetitions?

Content of the talks from each country; New programs

Presentation of your plans, with a map showing where you will have the excursions including photos of the areas, and some interesting birds for your area. We all want to know your country a little bit better. Please include questions and ask for good advice if you are in doubt how to do the BirdID in your country.

Practical issues:

  • Include student fees for transport and accommodation. A way to keep only the dedicated students.

  • Criteria for selection of new students

  • Minimum number of sessions attended?

  • Trends in number of students and their results

  • Can family members attend? Dogs?

  • Homework

  • Indoor lessons? This is a field study, but we want students to learn as much as possible.

  • Teach point counts or line transects, even if BirdID don’t require it?

  • All contracts (A-C)– make changes?

  • Yearly reports – make changes?

  • The manual for BirdID studies – make changes?

  • Payment to main teachers or organizations (pdf)

  • Travel to the workshop

  • Other?
